Hello Rouen!

We went to France this past June (2011). It was a great city and if we ever go back there I want to spend more time there. It was a great little city. Like most city’s it’s build on a river and the little hotel we stayed at called Coeur de City Hotel Rouen Cathédrale was right near the water. But the old historic city centre was what got me hooked. Medieval buildings, shops and restaurants paint this area to give it that heraldic time feel.

On the East end of the centre is Monet’s favourite Rouen Cathedral were he spent countless days drawing and painting it’s gothic rich exterior. Inside we found such treasures as Richard the Lion Heart’s heart and Prince John’s casket as well as other notable Normand kings that help shape Northern France’s history.

Walking West down Rue Gros Horloge you’ll pass under the streets name sake. A large clock tower and if you look closely you can see that the clock only has an hour hand. This signifies how life is slower in France and you don’t need to be rushing around and counting the minutes (wow has times changed).

Moving on through the street you’ll pass a mixture of modern and medieval buildings until you come to a large church that looks like it belongs in Norway or Sweden. This Church is dedicated to Joan of Arc (Jeanne d’Arc) and if you find the cross this is the exact spot where she was burned for heresy in the 100 year war with England.
