Since Norm and I got engaged I have been on the hunt for the perfect wedding dress. Then one day, there it was! A picture of this beautiful dress, staring back at me in a blog. I very quickly looked up the company and style number. I also looked up what stores carried it. I was in luck, one store in London carried, a store in Exeter and a store in Chatham. All within driving distance.
I tried the London store first, after going to the store twice and calling the owner, I finally found out that they no longer carry it. Next I tried calling the store in Exeter, they no longer carried that line any more. I then had Amanda try the Chatham store, and they no longer carried that line either. I went up to Hanover and tried there. They could order it in for me, but didn’t have it. And if I did get it ordered in, I would have to buy it whether I liked it or not.
With some help from Jaclyn, I finally found a store that carried it in North York called Edith’s Fashions. They told Jaclyn that they had it in and that we could come in and try it on. So I set up a time to go and brought a long my mom and Jaclyn. It took us over four hours to get from London to the store. Traffic was terrible that day, but we were finally there and I was finally going to get to try on this dress.
We entered the store, which from anything we read, was supposed to be a bridal store that also carried formal wear. When we asked to see the bridal gowns, we were led to an area that had bridal gowns on a 4′ rack and that was it. I asked for the dress I wanted to try on and they told me they didn’t have, not only that, but it didn’t sound familiar – Wait! What? – When we mentioned that we were told it was in stock, they told us that they sold of the rack and that we should have called ahead of time to see if it was available that day. Not once during previous conversations did they tell us that they sold off the rack. We were pissed off! They were very rude and not very helpful at all. I would NEVER recommend Edith’s Fashions to anyone!
After that many stores and that much difficulty trying to find this “perfect” dress, I decided it wasn’t worth it. So on the drive home, I took a look at some of the pictures of other dresses I had tried on, and made a decision. I have now picked out my dress and am going for my first measurements on October 15th. I am very excited 🙂
I am going to Temptations in Hanover. On their lower level it looks like a gift store, however their second level is all fashion and half of that is bridal/ formal wear. Peggy, the owner, is very pleasant to work with and extremely helpful. I look forward to working with her.
