D-day Beaches, Normandy, France

So some of you might know that I’m a pretty big WWII nut. It stems from my days in cadets when I was younger. I can’t help it I like the history behind it. On our recent travels to France Alison and I got a rental car and took two days to tour the history rich country side of Normandy. And I got to admit, from the first rainy morning, I loved it!

Monument and preserved sites are everywhere. We drove around the British and Canadian section on the first day and we were amazed that there are tanks on the side of the road, people driving around in US military Jeeps and the many preserved bunkers.

The second day was spent on the American side and if you’ve ever seen Band of Brothers you would recognize the names of the towns. It was inspiring to see how beautiful Omaha beach is today. Just to think that it’s nickname was “Bloody Omaha” for the ocean ran red with the blood of casualties.
