I don’t know how Norm managed to keep this a secret for so long. He had been planning on proposing for at least 5 months.
It was June 9, 2011. It was our first full day in Paris. We had arrived in Paris the day before and had been in France for about a week at this point. We had gone out for supper in a quirky restaurant in the Latin Quarter. Afterward we went for a walk along the river and decided to go for a boat ride, only to find out that it was too late to buy tickets for that night. Instead we decided to go sit on a pedestrian bridge to watch the night life around us.
We were sitting on a bench just the two of us, it was about 10:30 at night. There were boats going under the bridge and you could see the tip of the Eiffel tower in the background. We started talking about the two of us and our future and that’s when he took out the ring from his back pack and asked me to marry him.
The ring is gorgeous and custom designed by Norm. It is a white gold claddagh ring, which is a traditional Irish ring. The heart is a ruby (Norm’s birthstone) and in both cuffs there are two diamonds (my birthstone).
I was so surprised, and couldn’t believe that he had been carrying around this ring for a week in France without saying anything about it. He’s sneeky!
